Among programs that he directed were NBC&amp;#039;s &amp;#039;&amp;#039;The Dennis Day Show&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, CBS&amp;#039;s sitcoms &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, starring [[Dwayne Hickman]], &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Mister Ed]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;The Bob Cummings Show&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, starring Robert Cummings, and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[The New Phil Silvers Show]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, an unsuccessful attempt by comedian [[Phil Silvers]] to return to a regular series.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was producer of TV shows such as &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[My Mother the Car]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Supertrain&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, and wrote the story for the 1988 film &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Sunset&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. Amateau also directed a few episodes of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[The Dukes of Hazzard]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, and appeared in a handful of episodes as an actor as well.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
In 1987, he directed, produced, and co-wrote the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[The Garbage Pail Kids Movie]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, which is considered to be [[List of films considered the worst|one of the worst films ever made]].&lt;br /&gt;
