Henrietta Kaye was born in Brooklyn March 21, 1911. She studied sculpture at Cooper Union, but she preferred working in the theater and appeared in Broadway musicals during the 1930s. Working as Henriette Kaye, she was a member of the Federal Theatre Project. Kaye married actor and comedian Jim Backus in 1943.&amp;lt;ref name=&amp;quot;NYT obit&amp;quot;/&amp;gt; The couple co-starred in the 1960s television series &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Blondie&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, and they performed together once on &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Gilligan&amp;#039;s Island&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, in the sitcom&amp;#039;s second-season episode &amp;quot;Gilligan&amp;#039;s Mother-In-Law&amp;quot; (1965). Henny and Jim Backus co-authored several humorous books, including &amp;#039;&amp;#039;What Are You Doing After the Orgy?&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1962), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Only When I Laugh&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1965), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Backus Strikes Back&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1984), and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Forgive Us Our Digressions&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1988). Henny also wrote &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Care for the Caretaker&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1999), documenting her husband&amp;#039;s battle with Parkinson&amp;#039;s disease and offering practical solutions for those facing such dilemmas.&amp;lt;ref name=&amp;quot;NYT obit&amp;quot;/&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Jim Backus died from complications of pneumonia in 1989.  Fifteen years later, Henny passed away at the age of 93 following a series of strokes.
